Mason Dixon Stuff

Thanks everyone for listening to me whine, sometimes I can be such a baby! Now on to the fun stuff! I finished some of the projects that I was doing out of the Mason-Dixon Book.

I made Absorba for my upstairs bathroom. I really like how it looks and it is very cushy under my feet. I used four strands of cotton yarn, one blue, one blue variegated, one ecru, and one beige variegated. Using all that cotton did hurt my hands, but I think it was worth it. I want to do another mat for in front of the vanity, but not one exactly like this. I’ll have to see what I can come up with.

I also finished the hand towel. The color is perfect for my bathroom, but I’m not completely happy with it. I couldn’t put my finger on it until I realized that I prefer a hand towel I can really sink my hands into. This one, while soft and absorbent, just doesn’t do it for me. So I’m going to just use this one, and the one my mom is making me, for decoration on the extra hand towel rack over the toilet.

Here are the before and after washing pictures. You can really see how the stitches changed, but it just wasn’t thick enough for me.

  1. Love the mat. Ugh! Four strands of cotton!
As to the closed in. We hit that when we were the 1st to have a kid. We were no longer able to make last minute dinner/bar hopping/party plans. We stopped getting phone calls. Now everyone has kids, so it's not too bad. But we don't have the same closeness we used to have. But it's hard with families to find time.
I think it's just a matter of comfort zones. Some people need to identify with like minded people or ones in the same situation. Hang in there. I have never had a "best" girlfriend, which I lament, but then remember that I am such a loner I wouldn't probably be a good "best" friend.

Lovely! Don't you want to make everything in that book. It's really one of my favorites. I've been tempted to make the hand towels.

  4. I just finished reading MD knitting. I can't wait to make Absorba and the linen hand towels. I am from Canada and I don't know where to by Peaches and Cream. I might have to buy it from the website, although shipping is a pain. And getting it across the border. Nice colours on the mat.
